Education: Building Brighter Futures in Rural Ghana

We invest in rural schools so that every child can learn in safety. Meet Salom, our community spotlight, and see the school we are building together.

A child's future should not depend on the village they were born in. We invest in rural Ghana's schools so that every child can learn, grow and reach their potential.

Why education changes everything

Our work supports UN Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education.

  • Close the education divide

Rural children should not fall behind because of where they were born. Quality education is the surest way to reduce poverty.

  • Schools as community hubs

A good school draws a community together and builds social cohesion, long after the walls are up.

  • Skills for rural youth

Learning environments that spark curiosity give young people the skills to shape their own future.

What makes a quality rural school

A building is only the start. These are the things that turn a classroom into a place where children truly learn.

  • Safe learning spaces

    • Sound, well-lit classrooms
    • Desks, chairs and boards
    • Clean water and toilets
    • Handwashing and hygiene
    • Space to play and exercise
  • Great teaching

    • Trained, motivated teachers
    • Teaching and learning materials
    • Mentoring and ongoing training
    • Strong school leadership
    • Parents and community involved
  • Tools to learn

    • Textbooks and a mini library
    • ICT labs and digital skills
    • Science and learning kits
    • Sports and play equipment
    • Reliable power, including solar
  • The whole child

    • Nutrition and school meals
    • Health and wellbeing
    • Girls and children with disabilities included
    • Life skills and mentoring
    • Safeguarding and child protection
ICT labsfor rural schools

Digital skills for every rural child

The world children will work in is digital. Yet many rural schools have no computers, no power and no trained teacher to guide them. An ICT lab changes that, and gives children the skills to learn, to find work and to build businesses.

ICT labs are part of our vision for quality rural schools. We are looking for technology partners to help us equip them.

  • Computers
  • Solar power
  • Internet access
  • Trained facilitator
  • Digital curriculum
  • Safe online use
  • 1

    Computers and devices

New or refurbished computers, accessories and furniture for a working lab.

  • 2

    Power and connectivity

Reliable power, including solar, and internet access where it is available.

  • 3

    Trained facilitators

Teachers trained to run the lab and to teach digital skills with confidence.

  • 4

    Learning that lasts

A digital literacy and coding curriculum, with care and maintenance built in.

Community spotlight

Salom: a community building its own future

Courage Tekpa, founder of the TEKCHILLS Foundation, with school children in Salom, Ada West District, Ghana
Courage TekpaOur founder with school children in Salom

Salom is a rural community in the Ada West District of Ghana. Its youngest children learned in unsafe and inadequate surroundings, and earlier in 2026 heavy rainstorms brought the old structure down.

The need is now urgent. Salom did not wait for someone else to fix it. The community has committed to investing in its own educational future, and it is contributing labour costs to the build. That commitment is why we chose Salom.

Together we are building a six-unit classroom block with a mini library: a safe, well-equipped place where children can learn, grow and reach their potential. 3,500 blocks are ready to be laid.

This short film shows the learning centre at the Salom D/A school before the 2026 rainstorms brought the old structure down, when very young children were studying in unsafe and inadequate surroundings.

Questions before you give

What happened to the old school in Salom?

Earlier in 2026, heavy rainstorms caused the old structure to collapse. The need for a safe, permanent school is now urgent, which is why we are building a six-unit classroom block with a mini library together with the community.

Where is the Salom school being built?

In Salom, a rural community in the Ada West District of Ghana. Young children there had been learning in unsafe, inadequate surroundings, and the old structure collapsed in heavy rainstorms earlier in 2026.

Why was Salom chosen?

Salom was chosen for its commitment to investing in its own educational future. The community contributes labour costs, which makes the project a true partnership.

Which other schools are on your radar?

Salom is where we start. We have 47 other rural schools on our radar across the Volta, Eastern, Oti, Central and Greater Accra regions, and we share the portfolio with serious partners. We also bring books to 300+ vetted rural schools.

Can our group visit and work in a rural community?

Yes. We welcome group trips to Salom and to the other rural school communities on our radar. Educators, company teams, university groups and community groups can join us in the field. We plan every trip with you, and all visits follow our Safeguarding Policy.

What makes a quality rural school?

A safe building and furniture, clean water and toilets, trained teachers and materials, a library and ICT lab, reliable power, and care for the whole child, including nutrition, health and safeguarding.

What exactly will my gift pay for?

Gifts go to the construction of a six-unit classroom block with a mini library. You can give a single block ($0.55), a bag of cement ($8), a student desk ($30), a trip of sand ($200) or a whole classroom ($4,500).

How is my money used?

85% goes directly to programme costs, 10% to monitoring, evaluation and community engagement, and 5% to administration and operations.

Can my company match employee gifts?

Possibly. We are a verified nonprofit on Benevity, which many employers use for matching gifts and volunteer grants.

Can I donate books or equipment instead?

Yes. We accept books, computers and accessories, sports equipment and construction materials. Contact us to arrange it.

Will schools get ICT labs?

ICT labs are part of our vision for quality rural schools. We are looking for technology partners to help equip them with computers, power, connectivity and trained facilitators. Contact us to discuss an ICT lab.

How can we partner on a school?

You can adopt a school, share one with other partners, build a portfolio across several schools, or fund a single need such as classrooms, desks or a library. Contact us and we will design the partnership with you.

How will I know my gift made a difference?

Partners receive milestone reports every quarter until the project closes, followed by a final impact summary.

Will you recognise and promote our company as a partner?

Yes. We periodically spotlight our partners and tell the world about the work they do. When you back a project with us, your commitment can be shared with our community across our website, newsletter and social channels, together with the people and places your support is reaching. Every spotlight is agreed with you first, so your story is told the way you want it told. Partners who prefer to give quietly are always welcome to stay private.

Is the foundation properly registered and accountable?

Yes. We are a registered nonprofit in Ghana, Reg. No. CG010572020, under the Companies Act 992. A board of directors reviews budgets, spending and outcomes every quarter.
