How We Work

Behind every classroom, library and clean water point in rural Ghana is a way of working built on partnership, local ownership and open reporting. It is designed to give funders and companies confidence in every gift.

We treat every gift as a trust. It is planned with the community, released against milestones, and followed all the way to lasting results that local people own.

Six principles behind every project

Co-Design & Strategic Alliances Partnering for change

Built with the people it serves

Every project starts with a conversation, not a blueprint. We design each one together with technical experts and local community leaders, so outside skills and local knowledge work side by side.

  • Projects are shaped around needs verified in the community
  • Technical expertise and grassroots knowledge share one table
  • Funding goes where it is genuinely needed

Local Ownership & Governance Securing community assets

Communities hold the keys

A project that belongs to the community is a project that lasts. Traditional authorities and local partners take part through labour, land or oversight, and governance passes to the people who live with the result every day.

  • Communities and traditional authorities co-invest in what is built
  • Local committees take part in oversight and care
  • Infrastructure stays protected long after opening day

Sustainable Innovation & Scalability Catalytic capital and impact

Systems, not quick fixes

We build repeatable approaches instead of one-off fixes. Each project is meant to pass on skills, use open and shareable methods, and be copied in the next community, so a single gift keeps working for generations and advances the Sustainable Development Goals it targets.

  • Skills are transferred to local people
  • Methods are designed to be repeated in other communities
  • Every project is linked to the SDGs it supports

Impact Measurement & Accountability Verified return on giving

Run like a trusted investment

Funds are handled with the discipline you would expect from a corporate programme. Work is tied to milestones, results are evaluated, and reporting is open, so partners can see what their support has achieved.

  • Money is released against clear milestones
  • Results are evaluated, not just announced
  • Partners receive transparent reporting on what they support

Mitigation, Learning & Adaptation Proactive risk management

Seeing problems early

Things do not always go to plan in the field. Practical risk plans and regular feedback help us follow progress, spot problems early, deal with them quickly and adjust our approach, so partners are never surprised.

  • Risk plans are prepared before work begins
  • Feedback from communities and partners drives improvement
  • Strategy changes when the evidence says it should

Enduring Legacy & Stewardship Sustaining legacies

Built to last for decades

Our aim is for every project to still be working long after the first photo was taken. Local project committees and protections around each asset keep what we build in service for decades, so a gift becomes a lasting legacy.

  • Local committees care for each project long term
  • Assets are protected so they stay in service
  • Your support becomes a legacy the community keeps

A child's future should never depend on the village they were born in. Invest in one, and we will show you, year after year, what your generosity built and who it changed.

What partners ask before they commit

How do I know my gift is used as intended?

Projects are tied to milestones and evaluated, and partners receive reporting on the projects they support. If you want to follow a specific project, tell us and we will agree how you will be kept informed.

Can my company sponsor a specific project?

Yes. Companies and organisations can sponsor a named project. Email partnerships@tekchillsfoundation.org and we will talk through the options.

Do communities contribute to the projects?

Yes. Communities take part through labour, land or oversight, which is why projects stay cared for after handover.

Can employees give through their company?

We are open to CSR and employee giving, and will help you set it up in the way that suits your company.

Can I visit a project?

We welcome partners who want to see their project for themselves. Get in touch and we will arrange it with the community.

Let us build something that lasts

Tell us what you want your giving to achieve. We will answer plainly and show you how we would get there together.
